Project Arrow

For now this is the info site for Project Arrow, the comic that Kevin Bush (writer) and I (artist) are releasing this November. We will be posting Character Bios, backstory, art, concepts and respond to any questions that anyone has. We will be at the 10th annual black comics convention tomorrow October 6th handing out fliers.

In the meantime here are some of the concepts, from here on out I'll only be posting completed works for Project Arrow.

Not so frequently updated...

More art I've been working on for the past few months. It looks like the comic I've been working on is actually getting done. I have a few of the pictures I've been holding on to because I didn't want to "let the cat out of the bag until i was sure it would be done this year. (counter clockwise) This is a character is from much further in to the story, these spiders make an appearance in the second issue, and the final is a main character from the first story which is primarily comedy.

Collabrative process

These were all made for a project now nearing the end of the production process. The entire project was done between several people.


These are costume designs I was doing for a Fan Fiction based film someone was doing. It was science fiction based but the director desired a very contemporary look. Kinda like the old west and tribal yet still futuristic.

These are character concepts for the graphic novel a friend and I are working on. We disagreed on how "she" should look and we wanted her to be menacing at times but still be able to be both attractive physically and a strong dominate personality. Not brainless eye candy. So it came down to eyes or with out eyes. A decision that still hasn't been totally settled.

Last but not least this was a little sketch I did while at a bar hanging out with some of Chicago's talented comic artist. The theme was robot chicks, even though I had just said I did not like/nor had the ability to draw robots. It's not much compared to theirs but it's something to look at.

Progress

I've been doing a lot concept art for the comic in the
last month. I'll be putting them up tomorrow. Characters include: Sam, Jason, and several teachers.

Summer Projects

I've been trying to get used to life back in the suburbs and get back in to the habit of actually doing work.

I've been storyboarding and sketching a project that's been in development for a very long time now. The working title is "Wind" and it's based around a Native American. Right now it's looking like it be with out dialogue and might be around five minutes at the most.

The story it is based off of is about a young man who leaves life with his grandmother to seek out his three brothers & their father. His brothers are the East, West and South Winds and he must prove himself worthy to live amongst them.



My other projects are comic books, which I am working with two different writers to create. One titled "Out of the Ordinary" was a concept I had but ended up catching my roommates attention. He worked with it and together we wound up creating something new and original. He's working on a final draft now and soon we'll decide whether or not we can do it in one shot or sections.

The other is a retake on a comic I had released under a different publication. Complications arose and the second issue just never got printed. So rather than just pick up where we left off we totally changed the ideas and a lot of the characters. The working title is the same as the old 110% but it won't be the actual title. It is a bunch of short stories dealing with characters attending a boarding school for archetypes like; Wizards, mad scientist, warriors, maidens in distress, ect.

Sexual Dimorphism

I had a theory about how evolution (sexual dimorphism in particular) played in to our lives. Specifically in aspects that we take for granted like attraction to another person or what attracts us to that person.

These ladybug pictures are representational of that question. What crossed my mind was, for instance; could/would this creature with red spotted eyes, find an attraction to a ladybug since gazing at one would simulate staring at another one of its' species.

So I always wonder what parts of modern day attraction in human beings have been carried over directly from our past sexual dimorphism's.

Balancing Act

I've been on the hinge of graduating, finishing projects and in the development stages for several more. A lot of time is going to be freed up once all this is done.

Still preparing for our screening tomorrow. Finishing will be much more rewarding than the actual screening. Oh and apparently our short will also be screened at a gallery until some time in June. I'll be sure to post it.

Catching Up

Wow I've really been busy. If I'm not careful every one of these posts will be called catching up. I've just been working on my final projects in Flash 8 and editing another project of film which is time consuming but rewarding.

The group project I've been working on will be screening Friday May 11th @ my school. I'm just glad it'll be done with. I'll put up some of the work I did from that once we screen the film.

My short is still in rough stages but is coming along nicely. It should take much more than a month to be complete. That's if I don't get swamped with character designs and freelance. So it's a catch 22.

For some reason I can't load up pictures right now so I'll try again later tonight.

P.S. Don't see Spiderman 3. It was terrible.

Nature calls...

This is a concept I've been working on for a short story I wanted to animate in flash. Right now the character is still way to complicated to move in to the shorts execution stage. However, I do like where it is going and the direction the other concepts are taking.

Catching Up

The problem with production in school is that you're always behind and never have the time to make it back up. I swear if it's not another class taking up your production time, it's work or some other reason that comes out of the blue. I'm beginning to wonder what type of things can come at you when you do this full time.

Well never mind all that. Here is a picture of a bee, or a woman in a bee outfit. I'm going to try to get in to the habit of actually talking about my artwork (if you can call it that) instead of just filling this blog with daily rants and tom foolery.

Busy

Wow. I haven't gotten a lot of sleep with all of my classes coming to a head. Three major projects before I graduate. By the end of this weekend hopefully all the work in my animation production studio class will be done.

I've been trying to work on experimental films in my other production class. I'd like to try to have some of it shown in my portfolio but everything is on film. Ah well.

I watched Dr Strangelove today, and enjoyed it. Kubrick was quite the filmmaker. Makes me wonder what happened.

Getting in the groove.

I'm still trying to warm up to this blog thing and catch up with some of my buddies that have been doing this for a while. So I'm trying to post once a day for a week to get in the swing of things before I start putting anything serious up. Day 2

This picture I like a lot with it's unfinished look. I just find the composition interesting. There is a long and theory that goes behind this picture and the several others like it. I'll have to post the entire story after I get all of the animation for my class done.

What to do with this?

Well I've been told I needed to get around to making one of these and now I have. I just don't know what to use it for. I assume just to post works and share ideas. Speaking of works I need to get back to my mountains of school work that are looming over my head.
