Working on a lot of different projects, writing, drawing, inking ect. I got a new pen so I'm putting up some of my inked sketches. It's an awesome brush pen(from an awesome person ;) that's ash) so I can really get some thickness to my line work and still be soft and delicate. I got completely carried away inking as you can see. It was an expressive stroke extravaganza (if such a thing exists) and who doesn't like elves?

Anyway... the story is combat based, old school sword and shield type battles and if you haven't figured it by now, features at least one elf. And if the ink strokes are really that excessive it's a female elf.

I don't know if there is a word for female elf... elfemale? That looks like spanish...

I had a theory that god(s) are really nothing more than an extension of their societies and the things that they (and i mean their leaders) felt were important to guide their people through the world they only partially understood. It would explain not only why so many religions and gods have similar fundamentals but how they've evolved off of core ideals and are rooted in customs where they originated. These "god(s)" would really just be nothing more than exaggerated characters sporting extremes of basic emotions and ideals that humans experience, hate, love, vengance, justice, ect. Because why with all of the space between the objects in space (including us), the infinite span forward, backwards and present time would something that started everything act like something that takes up such a small fraction of existance?

Did some repairs on an old figure I did and he (it) ended up being quite nice if i say so my self. In the end it resembles a masai warrior. In retrospect I will do "before" pictures so I can show the progress...

Back in Action

I received my computer back from it's "repairs" and was surprised to find that the memory on it had not been erased. I was excited and resumed what I had been doing weeks before when it had shut down and then i began to think: all of the things that mattered so much that were stored on my computer. Music, scanned images, pictures taken, etc. All intangible, recoverable and not holding any type of monetary or essential value in my life (I made it three weeks without them and assumed they were lost to the hands of the best buy geek squad). Are they really all that important? Memories of times past or favorite songs, what do they really mean to me and do I need them at all?

This made me think of "Fight Club" something along the lines of the things you own slowly begin to own you. They define you. But to who? Yourself? Do you need to define you to yourself? What has life become if we rely on things that can be erased at any moment to define our identity? Time to sleep.

Alternative Possiblites of Ourself

Recently someone posed a "what if" question to me regarding "me" as a different "me". The question seems to come up every now and then with just about anyone I talk to. At first I thought it was pointless to speculate but then I began to think about the question itself and what purpose it could possibly serve (in others words I was bored) to be asked over and over again with no real answer. I would suppose it is to keep us aware of where we are and where we still can go. By looking at the past situations, and the choices we have made we can see what is within our control and out of our control. Those that are out of our control are just that, and because of that we can only look at how they shaped us (or how we let them shape us). The difference is those types of things hopefully allow us to consider how to respond under situations that are out of our control; what we should draw from the latter (I suppose) is to consider our actions, motives, responses, how we carry them out and where they eventually might put us.
I think this is an exercise that keeps the human mind aware of itself. Most creatures we know of do not have the ability to imagine themselves and how everything is relative (to themselves and everything else). They see things as absolutes and make judgments according to that. For instance, a wolf would not suppose he was a duck, or to an extent, a wolf would not suppose he was a duck being hunted by a wolf. Really this will turn in to off subject rambling. Signing off.

It might has well been millions of years since I've posted. Wow. I could make a million excuses as well but it would probably be more beneficial to take action. Here's a pic I worked on for all of two hours, pondering how much ordinary people mean to us in our lives but create such a lasting effect. Love, hate, idolize or what ever you do to specific people in your life they are still ordinary people working with (in general) everything you (we) have. Nobody in real life has super powers or abilities that the average individual cannot attain on their own, yet still we sit in amazement/awe of what they do. You get on life so take action. Hmmm. Now reading this explination I might have trouble sleeping. :(

Biological Technology

I watched movies wondering if I would see the day humans and technology mixed together; Ghost In The Shell, Robocop, Terminator, Akira, ect...
Recently I began to notice it has already begun of course not is the sci-fi cyber punkish ideas we've seen in movies and tv but people on blue-tooth, i-phones. PSP, I-pod and the DS are carried around as if they are an appendage of the person. To think something like this has happened so gradually, so passively it makes me wonder how long will it be before I look back as I am right now trying to remember when people began infusing technology with in their skin or technologically augmenting their abilities. I think of the hearing aid, the pacemaker.
I wonder what type of device would be so incredibly useful for someone to actually attach it to oneself? First what comes to mind would be a memory device, a camera or recording device. Or more likely than that a health related device, but this is obvious because it has already happened as stated above.
Any how it's beginning to seem more likely that I will see such a day when this type of this is not uncommon.

Rabbit

When I got home there was a rabbit in my garage. He was about the size of a child's fist. Very sneaky. My brother and I had to lure him out by slowly chasing along the wall.
He originally must have gotten stuck in one of our basement windows. I heard him last night and mistook him for some birds fighting. Once I left for work my brother heard him by the window like I had, but when they investigated they saw him trying to jump out. Needless to say they rescued him only to have him sprint around the yard, between cars, in to walls and eventually in to
the garage.

Ah time... My time is getting eaten up right now working part time and doing art work in the meantime. Now I know what people mean when they say there isn't enough time to get things done. The day seems like it passes very quickly which can be a half full half empty type of thing.

Here's hoping this loads up. This is just an exercise in rigging I've been practicing in the past month. The eye is a rig while the rest is frame by frame I scribbled on so the eye wouldn't just be floating.... Really I just want to see if I can get this to load.

Fiddling w/Flash

A little blurb of animation I happened to be working on... Nothing big just fiddling with flash. I am currently working on a project that I am using the more fluid aspect of traditional animation with the modern efficiency that flash offers to animation. Deadline is in late summer but with the way things are headed it should be earlier than that.

Strange events

This didn't happen to me it actually happened to my brother and I thought it was entertaining enough that I'd put it up. Well my brother is in high school and they have a pond (know by anyone who attend there as the "Bio-Pond") there. Needless to say there are geese and other types of creatures that hang out around it and he's always telling me about how someones getting chased by something nearby it. Well this time two geese moved (as geese are know to do) over to one of the traveling paths in between two of the buildings. Any way the geese for some reason or another were very territorial of this new area and were not letting students by. One of the geese (quite literally) was standing in front of the door fight (and biting) people that neared it. And as youthful as high school students are it seemed that all of them fell to the intimidation of a goose.... Well it was funnier when I heard it.

Project Arrow

For now this is the info site for Project Arrow, the comic that Kevin Bush (writer) and I (artist) are releasing this November. We will be posting Character Bios, backstory, art, concepts and respond to any questions that anyone has. We will be at the 10th annual black comics convention tomorrow October 6th handing out fliers.

In the meantime here are some of the concepts, from here on out I'll only be posting completed works for Project Arrow.

More art I've been working on for the past few months. It looks like the comic I've been working on is actually getting done. I have a few of the pictures I've been holding on to because I didn't want to "let the cat out of the bag until i was sure it would be done this year. (counter clockwise) This is a character is from much further in to the story, these spiders make an appearance in the second issue, and the final is a main character from the first story which is primarily comedy.

Collabrative process

These were all made for a project now nearing the end of the production process. The entire project was done between several people.

These are costume designs I was doing for a Fan Fiction based film someone was doing. It was science fiction based but the director desired a very contemporary look. Kinda like the old west and tribal yet still futuristic.

These are character concepts for the graphic novel a friend and I are working on. We disagreed on how "she" should look and we wanted her to be menacing at times but still be able to be both attractive physically and a strong dominate personality. Not brainless eye candy. So it came down to eyes or with out eyes. A decision that still hasn't been totally settled.

Last but not least this was a little sketch I did while at a bar hanging out with some of Chicago's talented comic artist. The theme was robot chicks, even though I had just said I did not like/nor had the ability to draw robots. It's not much compared to theirs but it's something to look at.

Summer Projects

I've been trying to get used to life back in the suburbs and get back in to the habit of actually doing work.

I've been storyboarding and sketching a project that's been in development for a very long time now. The working title is "Wind" and it's based around a Native American. Right now it's looking like it be with out dialogue and might be around five minutes at the most.

The story it is based off of is about a young man who leaves life with his grandmother to seek out his three brothers & their father. His brothers are the East, West and South Winds and he must prove himself worthy to live amongst them.

My other projects are comic books, which I am working with two different writers to create. One titled "Out of the Ordinary" was a concept I had but ended up catching my roommates attention. He worked with it and together we wound up creating something new and original. He's working on a final draft now and soon we'll decide whether or not we can do it in one shot or sections.

The other is a retake on a comic I had released under a different publication. Complications arose and the second issue just never got printed. So rather than just pick up where we left off we totally changed the ideas and a lot of the characters. The working title is the same as the old 110% but it won't be the actual title. It is a bunch of short stories dealing with characters attending a boarding school for archetypes like; Wizards, mad scientist, warriors, maidens in distress, ect.

Sexual Dimorphism

I had a theory about how evolution (sexual dimorphism in particular) played in to our lives. Specifically in aspects that we take for granted like attraction to another person or what attracts us to that person.

These ladybug pictures are representational of that question. What crossed my mind was, for instance; could/would this creature with red spotted eyes, find an attraction to a ladybug since gazing at one would simulate staring at another one of its' species.

So I always wonder what parts of modern day attraction in human beings have been carried over directly from our past sexual dimorphism's.

Balancing Act

I've been on the hinge of graduating, finishing projects and in the development stages for several more. A lot of time is going to be freed up once all this is done.

Still preparing for our screening tomorrow. Finishing will be much more rewarding than the actual screening. Oh and apparently our short will also be screened at a gallery until some time in June. I'll be sure to post it.

Catching Up

Wow I've really been busy. If I'm not careful every one of these posts will be called catching up. I've just been working on my final projects in Flash 8 and editing another project of film which is time consuming but rewarding.

The group project I've been working on will be screening Friday May 11th @ my school. I'm just glad it'll be done with. I'll put up some of the work I did from that once we screen the film.

My short is still in rough stages but is coming along nicely. It should take much more than a month to be complete. That's if I don't get swamped with character designs and freelance. So it's a catch 22.

For some reason I can't load up pictures right now so I'll try again later tonight.

P.S. Don't see Spiderman 3. It was terrible.

This is a concept I've been working on for a short story I wanted to animate in flash. Right now the character is still way to complicated to move in to the shorts execution stage. However, I do like where it is going and the direction the other concepts are taking.

Catching Up

The problem with production in school is that you're always behind and never have the time to make it back up. I swear if it's not another class taking up your production time, it's work or some other reason that comes out of the blue. I'm beginning to wonder what type of things can come at you when you do this full time.

Well never mind all that. Here is a picture of a bee, or a woman in a bee outfit. I'm going to try to get in to the habit of actually talking about my artwork (if you can call it that) instead of just filling this blog with daily rants and tom foolery.

Busy

Wow. I haven't gotten a lot of sleep with all of my classes coming to a head. Three major projects before I graduate. By the end of this weekend hopefully all the work in my animation production studio class will be done.

I've been trying to work on experimental films in my other production class. I'd like to try to have some of it shown in my portfolio but everything is on film. Ah well.

I watched Dr Strangelove today, and enjoyed it. Kubrick was quite the filmmaker. Makes me wonder what happened.

I'm still trying to warm up to this blog thing and catch up with some of my buddies that have been doing this for a while. So I'm trying to post once a day for a week to get in the swing of things before I start putting anything serious up. Day 2

This picture I like a lot with it's unfinished look. I just find the composition interesting. There is a long and theory that goes behind this picture and the several others like it. I'll have to post the entire story after I get all of the animation for my class done.
